India Sees Boom in Global Investing Thanks to RBI's LRS
For years, Indian investors have dreamed of owning shares in global giants like Apple, Google, and Tesla. With the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), this dream has finally become a reality.
The LRS allows Indian residents to send up to $250,000 abroad for various purposes, including buying shares of foreign companies. This means that individuals can now invest in US stocks from India without needing to be high-net-worth individuals or finance experts.
There are two ways to invest in US stocks: directly through a broker, which requires sending money under the LRS limit and buying shares on a US exchange; or indirectly through funds or exchange-traded funds that invest in US stocks. While the indirect route may seem easier, buying shares directly gives investors more control over their investments.
