Indian Data Breach Costs Soar to ₹25.5 Crore in 2026 Amid AI-Driven Cyberattacks
Indian companies are facing unprecedented costs due to data breaches, which have risen to ₹25.5 crore in 2026 according to IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report.
The average breach cost increased by 15.9% year-on-year from ₹22 crore in 2025, while the number of compromised records surged to 39,500.
This alarming trend is attributed to the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cyberattacks, with 26% of malicious breaches involving AI-generated attacks.
IBM's Vice President of Technology for India & South Asia, Gaurav Agarwal, stated that 'the rapid proliferation of AI in India offers substantial opportunities for innovation; however, it concurrently accelerates the evolution of cyber threats.'
