Indian Diaspora Raises Concerns Over Social Media Abuse at Beijing Embassy Open House

The Indian Embassy in Beijing hosted its first Open House in recent years, bringing together a large number of Indian professionals working in different sectors in Beijing. The event was attended by Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami, along with Counsellor (Consular, Education and Community Affairs) Nitinjeet Singh and Counsellor (Visa) Ramesh Singh.

Members of the Indian diaspora raised concerns over abusive anti-India content on Chinese social media platforms, including comments on their food habits and culture. They also pointed to a decline in the number of job visas being issued by China to Indian professionals and restrictions on employment for spouses.

Doraiswami said that the embassy would further simplify documentation for Chinese nationals applying for Indian visas from next week to make travel to India easier. He also stated that the Chinese government is concerned about the increase in abusive content and is taking steps to address it.
