Indian Equity Markets End Lower Amid IT Stock Weakness
The Indian equity markets ended lower on August 26, as IT stocks weighed heavily on sentiment amid US visa uncertainty.
The Nifty 50 index closed at 24,207.75, down 126.80 points or 0.52 per cent, while the BSE Sensex fell 183.15 points or 0.24 per cent.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, stated that sectoral divergence was to blame for the market's decline, as inflation concerns receded on tempered US sanctions on Iran and easing domestic bond yields lifted banking stocks.
However, these gains were largely offset by weakness in IT stocks after the US paused visa appointments amid an immigration crackdown, which rekindled margin pressure concerns.
