India's Data Breach Costs Soar to Record High, IBM Report Reveals
The average cost of a data breach in India has reached an all-time high of Rs 25.5 crore in 2026, according to IBM's latest report.
This marks a significant increase of 15.9 per cent from the previous year's figure of Rs 22 crore.
The report also found that the average scale of data breaches has increased, with nearly 39,500 records compromised per incident in 2026 compared to 38,200 records in 2025.
AI-generated malicious data breaches accounted for 26 per cent of incidents in India, highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in making cyberattacks more sophisticated and scalable.
