IndiGo Aims for Early Adopter Status with 2030 Aircraft Order

IndiGo Airlines is taking an unconventional approach to its next aircraft order. The airline's Managing Director, Rahul Bhatia, has announced that it will wait until 2030 before placing a major order, with the goal of becoming an early adopter of whatever Airbus and Boeing launch next.

This strategy allows IndiGo to avoid committing to current technologies, which may be outdated by the time they are delivered. The airline already has nearly 1,000 aircraft on order, with deliveries running through to the mid-2030s. This deep order book gives IndiGo the luxury of waiting and assessing what comes next.

Bhatia wants to see lower unit costs and commonality remain key in the new aircraft. With a drive to have technology that matches this, it has a lot to consider and ponder to ensure the purchase is worthwhile and that it can be the early adopter it's currently striving for.
