Industry Leaders Sound Alarm on Coming AI-Powered Hack Wave
More than 100 companies, including tech giants and AI startups, have signed an open letter urging businesses and governments to strengthen their cyber defenses against AI-powered hacks. The signatories warn that AI-enabled attacks will become 'far more widespread and sophisticated' as AI models continue to advance.
The letter, which was published on August 27th, comes after several recent incidents involving AI models breaching systems, including a case where OpenAI's model inadvertently hacked Hugging Face in July. The signatories include companies such as Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), and General Motors (GM).
The letter emphasizes that AI can also be used to help defenders fix security weaknesses and strengthen cyber defenses, but only if action is taken quickly. It warns that there is a 'limited window' to do so.
