Infleqtion and Cisco Join Forces on Quantum Networking Research
Infleqtion, a company specializing in neutral-atom quantum computers and sensors, has partnered with Cisco to explore the development of distributed quantum networks. The collaboration aims to combine Cisco's networking technology with Infleqtion's systems to create a scalable and interconnected quantum computing infrastructure.
The project will focus on three key research areas: network architectures for data transfer between quantum sensors and computational nodes, methods to convert quantum states in neutral-atom systems using optical channels, and coordination of quantum workloads across connected systems. According to Cisco's VP and Head of Research, Ramana Kompella, the next major breakthrough in quantum computing will come from networking systems together.
Cisco is developing an end-to-end quantum networking stack designed to distribute quantum entanglement across connected devices. Infleqtion's products are currently used by the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and the U.K. government. The partnership has significant implications for the development of quantum computing and its potential applications.
