iPhone 17 Price Gap Sparks Speculation Over Apple's Pricing Strategy
The iPhone 17's price in the UK has created a £100 gap between Apple's direct store price and that of one major electronics chain, Currys. However, this discrepancy is not due to an Apple price cut, but rather because Apple increased its own direct price by £100 after a September event.
According to the latest numbers checked on September 13, Apple lists the 256GB iPhone 17 at £899 and the 512GB version at £1,099. Meanwhile, Currys is still listing the 256GB model at £799, exactly the same price it was at launch in September 2025.
This means that Currys is currently selling the iPhone 17 for £100 less than Apple's direct store price, but not below the original Apple price. This discrepancy has led to speculation about whether Apple has actually cut its prices or if retailers are simply clearing inventory at old prices.
For Apple investors, this distinction matters because it can indicate whether demand is strong and average selling prices are stable, or if there's a sign of weakness in the market. The current numbers do not provide clear evidence of either scenario, but the situation will become clearer as more data becomes available.
