Ipswich Council to Demolish Former Debenhams Store
The former Debenhams store in Ipswich is set for demolition after being bought by the borough council. The property was originally sold to the Unex Group in April 2021 for more than £3m, but has remained vacant since.
Neil McDonald, leader of the Labour-run council, stated that the overall cost of the project will be £5.2m. This includes the purchase price, legal fees, VAT, and demolition costs.
The building, known as Waterloo House, is not considered financially viable to let to tenants, according to the council. Demolition is expected to begin in spring 2027.
