Iran-Linked Account Uses Claude AI to Gather Intel on US Naval Assets
US-based AI company Anthropic has revealed that an Iran-linked account used its Claude artificial intelligence model to gather information on US naval assets.
The account used a Python pipeline built with Claude's assistance to track naval positions from open-source data, including names of US personnel, ship and aircraft transponder identifiers, commercial satellite-imagery query scripts, and lists of public websites exposing US naval movements.
Claude was also used to research potential vulnerabilities in shipboard systems, such as maritime satellite terminals, Cisco communications equipment, and industrial control products.
The report noted that it is unclear whether the intelligence generated with Claude had been used in any specific Iranian military operation.
