IREN Aims to Become Next Nvidia-Backed AI Infrastructure Leader
IREN (NASDAQ:IREN) is gaining attention for its ambitious AI infrastructure buildout, backed by a landmark $3.4B contract with NVIDIA and a separate investment commitment of up to $2.1B.
The company has already secured $6.5 billion in GPU financing at rates as low as 6%, with prepayments funding 45% to 55% of GPU capex. IREN's AI Cloud segment more than doubled sequentially to $70.5M in the latest quarter, driven by its transition from Bitcoin mining to contracted AI cloud capacity.
The bull thesis is that IREN will capture significant upside as it ramps up its contracted annualized recurring revenue (ARR) from less than 10% of a 5GW+ pipeline to $4B by year-end. This would make the company one of the most consequential AI infrastructure names of 2026.
However, there are execution and dilution risks associated with this multi-gigawatt buildout, which requires approximately $25 to $30 billion in fiscal 2027 capex. Customer concentration in Microsoft and NVIDIA is also a concern.
