Israel Eyes Boeing's F-47 as Potential Next Air-Superiority Fighter
Israel is reportedly seeking information from the United States about Boeing's F-47 aircraft, which could potentially become the country's next air-superiority fighter. According to Israeli media outlet Walla and subsequently published by the Jerusalem Post, defense officials want to know more about the F-47's capabilities and assess US policy regarding foreign access to the program.
The F-47 is still largely classified, but public information suggests it will have advanced stealth capabilities, new sensors, and extensive connectivity with other aircraft and uncrewed systems. The production-representative F-47 is expected to fly for the first time in 2028, although its precise performance remains classified.
This move would fit a long history of Israel's relationship with US combat aircraft, which stretches back several generations. Israel has operated the F-15 since 1976 and became one of the most experienced foreign users of the type. However, the country never had the opportunity to acquire the F-22 Raptor due to US law prohibiting exports.
