Israel Weighs Potential Acquisition of Boeing's F-47 Fighter
Israel's Defense Ministry and military are planning to request information from the United States about Boeing's F-47 sixth-generation fighter, a move that could potentially lead to an acquisition. The review is still in its preliminary stages, with no procurement decision reported yet.
The F-47 is being developed under tight secrecy and is expected to use a new engine. It will have an operational range of at least 2,000 kilometers, making it comparable to the distance required for Israeli operations involving Iran, Iraq, and Houthi targets in Yemen.
Israeli defense officials are unsure whether Washington's approach will differ from its longstanding ban on foreign sales of the F-22 Raptor. The possibility of allied participation gained attention after senior White House officials indicated that Japan might be allowed to join the program.
