Iwerks' Latest Film Shines a Light on Disney's Creative Visionaries
Documentarian Leslie Iwerks is back with her latest film, 'Disney Worldbuilders,' which debuts on Disney+ August 20. Her previous work, 'The Imagineering Story,' explored the design and development of Disney theme parks, while 'Disneyland Handcrafted' offered a behind-the-scenes look at Disneyland's construction in 1955.
'Disney Worldbuilders' focuses on the creative directors and executives who brought popular franchises like Avatar, Frozen, Marvel, and Pixar to life. Among them is former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who shares his experience with the film's director. 'I don't think they have any idea who we are,' Iger says about tourists visiting Shanghai Disneyland's Zootopia land.
The film highlights the importance of human imagination in creating great stories and franchises. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige notes that 'creators' belief in their stories, in their vision and in their ability to deliver, helps sustain them through hard work.' Cameron praises Disney's Imagineers for creating an emotionally powerful moment on Walt Disney World's Avatar: Flight of Passage ride.
