James Oliver DeRossett, affectionately known as Jim, left an enduring legacy after his passing on July 24, 2026, in Franklin, Tennessee. Born in Premier, West Virginia, on May 18, 1937, he spent the last 31 years in Tennessee.
Jim's remarkable life was marked by his warmth, kindness, and exceptional ability to connect with everyone he met. He loved mentoring others and freely shared his knowledge and talents with those eager to learn.
One of Jim's favorite hobbies while living in Mobile, Alabama, was deep sea fishing in the Gulf. He even competed in rodeos and enjoyed time with family and friends on Dauphin Island, Alabama.
Jim served four years in the United States Air Force as part of the 11th Radar Bomb Scoring Squadron, where his natural aptitude for electronics was refined. This skillset paved the way for a long and successful career at IBM in Mobile.
