Jean Smart Cracks Into Amazon MGM Rom-Com 'Egg Baby' After 'Hacks'

Amazon MGM Studios has secured Jean Smart for its upcoming romantic comedy 'Egg Baby'. This marks Smart's first project since wrapping up her role in HBO's hit comedy series 'Hacks', which earned her a record-breaking 15th Emmy nomination. In the rom-com, Smart will play Ms. Downey, joining previously announced cast members Ariana Greenblatt, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Arthur Conti.

'Egg Baby' follows two teenagers forced to co-parent an egg for health class, only to discover that raising 'Yolk-o' might spark a real connection between them. Written by Sawyer Perry and directed by Natalia Anderson, the film is produced by XYZ Films alongside Allison Friedman's production company and BuzzFeed Studios.

Smart has been focused on her work in 'Hacks' for the past five years, but has also made appearances in other projects like Apple TV's 'The Studio' and Damien Chazelle's 'Babylon'.
