Jeju Air Crash Investigation Uncovers Potential Seat Failure
South Korea's investigation into the deadly Jeju Air Flight 2216 crash has entered a new phase after internal investigation records reportedly indicated that passenger seats on the Boeing 737-800 detached during the impact, despite experiencing forces below the crashworthiness standard required under U.S. regulations.
The reported findings first published by The Chosun Daily have raised fresh questions about the aircraft's occupant protection system and could add another dimension to ongoing litigation against Boeing.
According to records from South Korea's Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB), investigators measured a maximum impact of 14.9g inside the aircraft cabin when the jet struck a reinforced concrete embankment supporting the Instrument Landing System (ILS) localizer at Muan International Airport.
