Jeju Air Expands Next-Gen Fleet with 13th Boeing B737-8 Purchase
Jeju Air has expanded its next-generation fleet by purchasing its 13th Boeing B737-8 aircraft, bringing the share of such planes in its total passenger fleet to over 30 percent.
The airline acquired and introduced the new plane on Saturday, according to a statement from Jeju Air. This brings the proportion of owned aircraft up to 34.8 percent, with two more additions planned by year-end.
Jeju Air is transitioning its fleet from the B737-800NG model to the newer B737-8 for improved cost efficiency and environmental performance. The newer planes have longer component replacement intervals, reducing maintenance costs and also use at least 14 percent less fuel and produce at least 14 percent less carbon dioxide emissions.
As the only South Korean low-cost carrier (LCC) to own aircraft, Jeju Air aims to continue expanding its owned fleet.
