Jets Defense Impresses in Preseason Showdown
The New York Jets' defense has been impressive in their first two preseason games. In last week's loss to Tampa Bay, they held the Bucs to three-and-out on the first series and stopped them on a 5-play drive that yielded only 17 yards. This week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the starting defense was on the field for just five drives, allowing no points and intercepting two passes.
Jets linebacker Demario Davis praised his team's effort, saying 'These games, they don't count, but they matter.' He noted that their performance in practice has been translating to live game situations, with rookie edge David Bailey contributing a sack on third down. The Jets' defense also notched an interception by Andre Cisco, which was one of two picks against the Steelers.
CBS Samuel Womack III then picked off Steelers QB Will Howard again on the next drive, demonstrating the team's emphasis on takeaways. Davis expressed satisfaction with his teammates' work ethic and consistency in practice, saying Bailey 'looks like the number two overall pick.' He added that it's essential to approach these preseason games seriously, as they set the stage for regular season competition.
