Jets Shut Out Steelers in Thrilling Preseason Match
The New York Jets kicked off their second preseason win of the summer against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, taking home a shutout victory of 17-0.
The Jets' head coach Aaron Glenn's team delivered a full-team effort in this exhibition match. One notable highlight was Geno Smith's debut as the team's No. 1 quarterback, who had been a surprise scratch from Week 1's preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Smith made an impressive start, going 7-for-7 passing on the opening drive and scoring a 13-yard pass for tight end Jelani Woods. This bodes well for the Jets' chances in the coming season.
The team's defense also put on a show, with multiple interceptions in the first half against third-string quarterback Will Howard. Safety Andre Cisco and rookie UDFA Sam Womack were among those who secured picks. Another standout performance came from defensive lineman Nate Lynn, who had two sacks despite being signed by the Jets just days prior.
The game also saw fourth-round rookie QB Cade Klubnik make a decent effort, going 10-for-14 with 75 yards in his second preseason start. This solidifies his position as the team's second-string quarterback over Bailey Zappe.
