JNJ Wins Approval for Icotyde in China Amid Huge Psoriasis Market
Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ) expansion into China has just gotten a significant boost. The pharmaceutical giant won approval for its once-daily pill, Icotyde, to treat psoriasis in Chinese patients.
The approval is a major coup for J&J, as over 8.4 million people in China live with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, according to Reuters. This represents a massive target market for the company.
Icotyde blocks the IL-23 receptor through an oral peptide, offering patients a convenient pill alternative to injectable treatments like J&J's own Tremfya. The treatment has already shown promise in its broader Phase 3 program, which enrolled approximately 2,500 people and supported earlier US approval.
While Icotyde may help defend J&J's immunology franchise as Stelara loses patent protection, it's unclear whether the new treatment will bring significant revenue growth. The stock currently trades at $266.59, which is 38.32% above its estimated value of $192.73.
