Jobs Steps Down as Apple CEO After Years of Health Issues
On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs submitted his resignation as CEO of Apple to the company's board of directors and the Apple community. This marked a significant chapter in the career of one of the most recognizable leaders in the tech industry.
Jobs was 56 years old at the time of his resignation, having battled a rare form of pancreatic cancer and undergone a liver transplant in 2009. He had also taken several medical leaves of absence from Apple.
In his resignation letter, Jobs recommended that Tim Cook be named as his successor. The board followed this plan, naming Cook CEO while Jobs took on the role of chairman of the board.
