JP Morgan Pledges $750 Billion for Affordable Housing Over Next Decade
JPMorgan Chase & Co. has pledged to invest $750 billion in housing over the next decade, a significant increase from its past efforts. This move is part of the bank's 'American Dream Initiative,' which aims to expand economic opportunities across six focus areas.
The investment will help finance the construction or preservation of 1 million affordable housing units and assist 500,000 consumers in buying homes. JPMorgan will also advocate for pro-growth housing policies, including joining the US Chamber of Commerce's Housing Advisory Council as chair.
Michelle Herrick, head of commercial real estate at JPMorgan, noted that solving the complex issue of affordable housing requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders. The bank plans to deploy debt, equity, and grants to support its efforts, and encourages working with other banks in the industry.
