JPM Raises Dividend Hike Target Amid Robust Earnings
JPMorgan Chase reported a strong Q2 earnings of $16.9 billion in adjusted net income, which is roughly twice its quarterly dividend payout of $4.3 billion. The company's CEO Jamie Dimon has signaled plans to raise the dividend rate from $1.50 to $1.65 per share in Q3.
Dimon cited a 14.1% CET1 ratio as justification for the increase, which is above the bank's stated goal of deploying capital at a 17% return across lending, markets, and AI-linked infrastructure.
The modest dividend yield of under 2% may not seem impressive, but analysts argue that it's the durability of the payout that matters more than its current rate. With only about 25% of recurring earnings going towards dividends, JPMorgan has significant room for future hikes even in a downturn.
