JPMorgan Assembles Crypto Team to Bring Digital Assets to Mainstream Banking
JPMorgan, the $4 trillion banking giant, is expanding its reach into digital assets by building a new Crypto Team inside its consumer banking arm. This team will focus on working with Chase business lines to shape digital asset strategy, building ties with startups and established industry players, and launching new products through internal builds, partnerships, or acquisitions.
The formation of the JPMorgan Team is notable given the bank's history, particularly CEO Jamie Dimon's 2017 comment that Bitcoin was a fraud. Since then, the bank has steadily reversed course, with developments such as the launch of JPM Coin (JPMD) on Coinbase's Base network and a retail partnership for Chase customers.
The new team is part of the Consumer and Community Bank division, separate from the firm's institutional blockchain arm, Kinexys. According to the bank's careers listings, the team will consist of roles such as a Lead Blockchain Architect and an Executive Director for its Consumer & Community Bank Digital Assets and Blockchain Solutions division.
Industry analysts note that this development signals growing institutional comfort with digital assets as regulatory clarity improves in the United States. With the new team in place, Chase customers could eventually see digital asset strategy reflected in everyday products, though no specific offerings have been confirmed.
