JPMorgan Bolsters Canadian Equities Presence with Senior Hire
JPMorgan Chase has made significant moves in Canada, hiring key talent to bolster its equities platform. The bank has recruited Chris Finora, a senior executive from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), as the head of its Canadian Cash Equities Trading franchise.
Finora joins JPMorgan in Toronto this month after about two years at CPPIB and 27 years at TD Securities. This hire is part of JPMorgan's expansion plans, which include increasing director headcount in Canada by 20% through the addition of 18 executives and managing directors in the past year.
JPMorgan's expansion in Canada demonstrates confidence in Prime Minister Mark Carney's government, which aims to attract $1 trillion in investment over the next five years. The bank believes inbound Canadian investment will accelerate over the next decade, prompting it to invest further in its business through senior hires, additional capital, and a likely expansion of its research team.
JPMorgan has already worked on significant deals in Canada, including Rockpoint Gas Storage's TSX IPO and Alimentation Couche-Tard's acquisition of Poland's Zabka. The bank's Canadian operations have seen growth, with local headcount increasing by about 50% in the past five years and revenue nearly doubling through market share gains and client growth.
