JPMorgan Chase Pours $750 Billion into Affordable Housing
JPMorgan Chase has unveiled a multi-year program to boost housing supply and affordable lending through 2035. The bank aims to issue over $750 billion in funding to build or preserve approximately 1 million affordable housing units, increase its home lending capacity by more than 40%, and add 850 loan advisors.
The American Dream Initiative is part of the bank's effort to support targeted community investment. Chase Home Lending CEO Sean Grzebin stated that 'the view from up high is the American dream is getting further out of reach, and we have a role to play.'
As part of the initiative, Chase will work with affordable-housing organizations, including down-payment assistance programs, to lower housing costs. The bank expects its effort to lead to 500,000 purchases, with 200,000 of its customers achieving homeownership for the first time.
