JPMorgan Commits $24 Million to Reviving US Shipbuilding Industry
JPMorgan Chase has made a significant investment in the shipbuilding industry through its $24 million commitment to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This investment is part of the bank's larger Security and Resiliency Initiative, which aims to fund sectors vital to US national security.
The funds will be used for workforce training initiatives, small business lending, regional coordination initiatives, and a 95,000-square-foot submarine manufacturing facility being constructed by Rhoads Industries. This investment is seen as crucial in reviving America's shipbuilding industry, which currently produces less than 1% of all new commercial ships.
The US shipbuilding industry has been declining over the years, with China producing over 7,000 ships, compared to just under 190 flying the American flag. The pandemic and ongoing global tensions have highlighted the need for a strong domestic supply chain.
