JPMorgan Doubles Down on Canadian Expansion with Senior Hires
JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank by assets in America, is expanding its operations in Canada. The bank has recruited former CPPIB trading executive Chris Finora to lead Canadian Cash Equities Trading.
This move marks an aggressive expansion of JPMorgan's presence in Canada, where it aims to capture a significant share of the investment wave expected over the next five years. According to reports, Canada hopes to attract $1 trillion of investment during this period.
JPMorgan has made 18 senior hires in Canada over the past year, increasing its director ranks by 20% and growing its workforce by 50% in just five years. The bank's Canadian revenue has nearly doubled as it gains market share and wins clients.
The timing of these moves is deliberate, with JPMorgan positioning itself to benefit from the expected investment surge. However, the bank's enormous markets operation generates significant revenue, $24.9 billion in the second quarter alone, making Canada a relatively small contributor to its overall numbers.
