JPMorgan Expands Greek Presence with New Corporate Banking Chief
JPMorgan Chase is expanding its presence in Greece by appointing Konstantinos Makrydakis as head of global corporate banking. This move will see him oversee coverage of large and mid-cap Greek companies, deepening the US bank's footprint in a market where it already operates an investment banking business.
The appointment comes as Greece regains investor confidence, following a decade-long sovereign debt crisis that led many foreign lenders to scale back or exit the market. The country has since undergone significant recovery, with credit rating upgrades, falling unemployment, and steady growth restoring investor confidence.
Greece regained investment-grade credit ratings from major agencies in 2023 for the first time since the crisis, a milestone that has drawn a wave of foreign investment into Greek banks, real estate, and infrastructure. JPMorgan's move follows similar signs of interest from global financial institutions in Greek corporate and investment banking.
