JPMorgan Expands into Greece as European Hiring Offensive Continues
JPMorgan Chase, the largest U.S. bank by assets, has expanded its European operations into Greece. The bank's new Greek operation will offer lending, financing, hedging, and investment-banking services to large and mid-sized companies.
The move is part of JPMorgan's broader effort to grow its corporate banking franchise in Europe, with the bank having increased staffing across its EMEA global corporate bank by approximately 25% over the past two years.
Greece provides JPMorgan with another gateway for connecting local companies with its global payments and capital markets machinery. While management did not disclose a revenue target or planned headcount for the country, the expansion is expected to strengthen cross-border relationships without requiring the bank to recreate its product engine.
Despite the move being too small to transform JPMorgan's numbers overnight, the bank generated $58 billion in managed second-quarter revenue and $21.2 billion in net income, while overseeing approximately $5 trillion in assets.
