JPMorgan Eyes Own Stablecoin Amid Global Alliance Talks
JPMorgan Chase has been exploring the possibility of launching its own stablecoin, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The bank is also considering joining a global stablecoin alliance with Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Santander.
The four banks would work together on issuing a shared stablecoin for global payments, cross-border settlement, and digital asset trading. This alliance would provide a wider reach than if each bank issued its own stablecoin, as it would be recognized by all four participating institutions.
JPMorgan's interest in a stablecoin stems from its existing infrastructure, which includes the Kinexys blockchain platform used for institutional payments and tokenization work with corporate clients. The bank is looking to expand this capability into a token that other institutions could hold and settle with.
