JPMorgan Pours Billions into California Housing Market
JPMorgan Chase is placing a major bet on California by expanding its footprint and investing billions in housing. The bank's CEO, Jamie Dimon, announced that San Francisco has turned a corner after years of economic difficulties following the pandemic.
Dimon praised Mayor Daniel Lurie for his efforts to address crime and increase housing supply. However, he acknowledged that the city still struggles with soaring housing costs and retaining essential workers due to widening inequality.
JPMorgan invested $200 million in a 342-unit waterfront housing development near Chase Center, as part of its effort to help finance affordable housing units. The bank also committed $750 billion through 2035 to increase U.S. housing supply, including financing for 1 million affordable housing units.
