JPMorgan Sees Stock Price Drop Amid Strong Jobs Growth
JPMorgan Chase, the largest U.S. bank by assets, saw its stock price drop approximately 1.6% to $356.21 on Friday after the August jobs report exceeded expectations. The report showed employers added 162,000 positions, nearly triple the 56,000 economists predicted.
This unexpected jobs growth pushed the market-implied probability of a September rate hike to roughly 62%. Higher rates can keep lending yields elevated and support borrowing demand while holding consumer credit stress in check.
However, more tightening could choke loan growth, deepen commercial real estate pressure, and plant the seeds for heavier credit losses. JPMorgan's valuation is already demanding discipline, with shares trading 12.86% above their $315.61 GF Value estimate.
