JPMorgan Soars as Treasury Yields Hit New High
JPMorgan Chase, America's largest bank by assets, saw its stock price rise approximately 0.5% to $357.72 on Tuesday as the 10-year Treasury yield reached its highest level since early 2025 at 4.8%. The sharp increase in yields has sharpened the earnings outlook for JPMorgan, with net interest income climbing 10% to $25.6 billion in the second quarter.
The bank's strategists expect a quarter-point Federal Reserve increase in September due to energy and supply-chain pressures that are keeping inflation stubborn. J.P. Morgan Wealth Management has been warning of higher rates coming. The rise in net interest income, which accounted for 44% of quarterly revenue, gives JPMorgan leverage to higher asset yields.
However, the bank's valuation is already demanding, with the stock price sitting 13.49% above its $315.19 GF Value estimate. Higher rates can boost lending income but also inflate deposit costs and squeeze borrowers.
