JPMorgan Unveils $750 Billion Housing Plan to Boost US Mortgage Lending
JPMorgan Chase, the largest US bank by assets, announced its American Dream Initiative to deploy over $750 billion in the US housing market through 2035. This commitment aims to increase housing supply, support homeownership, and encourage local economic development.
The plan includes increasing mortgage lending by more than 40% with the goal of helping finance homes for over 500,000 customers. JPMorgan's head of commercial real estate, Michelle Herrick, emphasized that affordable and resilient housing is crucial for economic growth and opportunity.
The announcement comes as the US housing market remains subdued due to elevated borrowing costs and high home prices, deterring many prospective buyers. The multiyear financing commitment will depend on customer demand, prevailing interest rates, credit performance, and how much of the deployment represents new activity rather than existing business.
