Judge Rejects DOJ Bid to Force Google Ad Tech Sale
A federal judge in Virginia has rejected the Department of Justice's request to force Google to sell its ad tech business. The decision follows last year's ruling that found Google had unlawfully monopolized two markets within the open-web display advertising technology ecosystem.
The DOJ had argued for a mix of structural and behavioral remedies, including divesting AdX and opening-sourcing DFP's final auction logic. However, Judge Leonie Brinkema rejected these proposals, instead ordering both parties to write a jointly proposed final judgment within 30 days.
The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has welcomed the decision, with President & CEO Matt Schruers stating that 'the Court rightly rejected the proposed break-up of Google's ad-tech business'.
