KC-135 Stratotanker Celebrates 70 Years of Service with USAF
The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker celebrated its 70th anniversary on August 31st, marking seven decades of service in the United States Air Force (USAF).
Designed to refuel jet-powered bombers and fighters in the 1950s, the KC-135 revolutionized aerial warfare by enabling aircraft to stay airborne for extended periods and operate thousands of miles from their bases.
The Stratotanker's longevity is remarkable; many upgraded examples remain in frontline service today, with the USAF expecting the type to remain in service into at least the 2040s.
