Kennedy Vaccine Stake Disclosure Sparks Senate Scrutiny

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s explanation for how he disposed of his financial stake in litigation involving Merck's Gardasil vaccine has come under scrutiny by a group of Democratic senators.

The senators, led by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, claim that Kennedy's recent statement conflicts with earlier answers he gave in written testimony and federal ethics filings.

Kennedy had said he would hand over his financial interest in vaccine litigation to his son, but then stated that neither he nor anyone else in his family have 'received a penny' from the Gardasil settlement.

The senators asked Kennedy on Monday to explain why he certified in an ethics form that he would transfer his stake to a family member, if that had not happened.
