Kent-Meridian High School Unveils Sensory Garden with Home Depot Support

Kent-Meridian High School in Washington state has partnered with Home Depot to create a sensory garden for students with mobility challenges and special education needs.

The $10,000 donation from Home Depot covered materials for eight raised garden beds and integrated seating areas. Volunteers from 'Team Depot' assisted with the construction.

Barbara Arnett, a speech-language pathologist at Kent-Meridian High School, spearheaded the project along with Home Depot. The sensory garden aims to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students, teaching them how to plant, cultivate, and harvest various produce.

The garden's accessibility features allow inclusive education classes to participate in the agricultural process. Student-harvested crops will be donated to local food banks. A plaque honors Irene Terrado-Paradeza, a Home Depot employee who played a key role in realizing the project but recently passed away.
