Kent-Meridian High School Unveils Sensory Garden with Home Depot's Help
A new sensory garden at Kent-Meridian High School in Washington state is now open to students, thanks to a partnership between the school and Home Depot. The garden features eight raised beds and integrated seating designed to help students with mobility challenges and special education needs access the agricultural area.
The project was led by Barbara Arnett, a speech-language pathologist at Kent-Meridian High School, who worked closely with Home Depot to bring it to life. The company donated $10,000 for materials and provided volunteers through its 'Team Depot' program to help build the garden.
The sensory garden is intended to support hands-on learning for students, with each bed used to teach how to plant, cultivate, and harvest a variety of produce. Student-harvested crops will be donated to the Kent-Meridian Food Bank and the Kent Community Food Bank.
