Kingdom Hearts Franchise Valued at Billions by Disney
Disney has revealed that the Kingdom Hearts franchise is one of its 'billion-dollar' franchises, part of its Disney Games Group portfolio. The announcement was made in a blog post discussing how video games are shaping Disney's future. The post states that more than half of these billion-dollar franchises have emerged in the last 12 years.
According to Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Global Games and Digital Entertainment for Disney, 'The way Disney is shaping the future of interactive entertainment through games is really acknowledging that games have become a foundational part of the broader entertainment landscape.' He emphasized the importance of telling original stories unique to the gaming medium.
The Kingdom Hearts franchise is notable for its long wait between sequels, but despite this, it has managed to endure. The series' future looks bright with the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts IV on Switch 2 and native versions of previous entries.
