Krishna vs Dimon: Meetings in the Digital Age

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon have differing views on whether employees should use phones and laptops during meetings. In a recent interview, Krishna said that meeting etiquette depends on the size and purpose of the meeting. He believes that small meetings require full attention from participants, but larger informational sessions can accommodate digital devices.

Krishna made these comments in October 2025, when speaking to CNN. He emphasized that expecting employees at a technology company like IBM to avoid using digital devices would be contradictory. In contrast, Dimon has consistently argued that employees should give meetings their full attention and avoid distractions from emails or notifications.

Dimon's views on meeting etiquette have been shared publicly before, including in JPMorgan Chase's 2024 annual letter to shareholders, released in 2025. He wrote that employees checking emails, personal texts or notifications during meetings waste time and disrespect colleagues. Dimon has also expressed frustration with remote participants looking at their phones during Zoom meetings.
