Krishna vs. Dimon: Tech Titans Clash Over Meeting Etiquette
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna disagrees with JPMorgan's Jamie Dimon over the use of technology in meetings. In an interview, Dimon expressed his disdain for employees using their phones during meetings, calling it disrespectful and a waste of time.
Krishna, however, takes a more nuanced approach. He argues that it would be 'weird' for a tech company like IBM to tell its employees not to use technology in meetings. Instead, he suggests that larger meetings are often ineffective, likening them to 'communication vehicles' rather than true discussions.
Krishna does emphasize the importance of attention and engagement during smaller meetings, stating that it's essential for employees to be fully present when discussing important issues. He also notes that multitasking during a meeting can create a ripple effect, distracting others and reducing productivity.
