KVA Flags Google Search Autocomplete Link to Illegal Online Casinos

The Dutch affiliate watchdog, KVA, has expressed concerns about Google's search suggestions directing consumers towards unlicensed operators. In a LinkedIn post, KVA highlighted the potential risks posed by Google's organic search features beyond paid advertising, including autocomplete and suggested queries.

KVA used data collected in Chrome's incognito mode to identify several autocomplete and pre-fill search queries that directly suggested illegal gambling platforms to users. These included phrases like 'online casino zonder Cruks' (online casino without CRUKS) and 'beste online casino buitenland' (best online casino abroad).

KVA emphasized the need for Google to take more comprehensive measures addressing organic search results, as they acknowledged that enforcement against such sites remains limited. The Dutch government has also stepped up pressure on illegal gambling, with lawmakers raising concerns about the role of Meta and Google in supporting the black market.
