Labor Day 2026: When Stores Are Open, Schools Closed

Labor Day in the United States is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. In 2026, Labor Day falls on September 7th.

This federal holiday honors the social and economic achievements of American workers, with its roots dating back to the Industrial Revolution and the labor movement of the late 19th century.
