Lambda Bets Big on Debt to Fuel AI Chip Supplies for Microsoft
Lambda, an AI cloud company, has taken on $1 billion in private debt to purchase Nvidia AI chips for leasing to Microsoft. The deal, arranged by JP Morgan Chase, reflects Lambda's confidence that it can quickly deploy the chips and generate revenue to repay the loan.
This is not Lambda's first foray into debt financing. In May, the company closed a $1 billion secured credit facility, and this week finalized a separate $926 million loan to fund Nvidia GB300 GPUs under a contract with Nvidia itself.
Lambda's reliance on debt reflects a broader industry trend, as banks and technology companies have raised more than $400 billion in AI-related debt globally so far in 2026, according to Bloomberg data.
