Lanterns Star Kelly Macdonald Reacts to Her Character's Big Gotham Reveal
Kelly Macdonald, star of HBO's Lanterns, says discovering her character's connection to Gotham was like finding out she's a Disney princess. In episode two, 'Trust Fall', Sheriff Kerry reveals she's from Gotham, which gives the actress a new perspective on her role.
Macdonald recalls watching The Penguin during filming and almost adopting a full Gotham accent. However, she was told to keep it ambiguous and not go for the typical Gotham sound.
The show Lanterns is connected to DC Studios' upcoming film Clayface, which takes place before the events of HBO's animated Creature Commandos. Despite this connection, Lanterns remains its own contained world, focusing on Hal Jordan as he investigates a mass shooting in Rushville with the help of local law enforcement, led by Sheriff Kerry.
Macdonald says that reading the script and discovering the Gotham connection made her realize she was part of a larger universe. Her co-star Jason Ritter agrees, saying it's exciting to see how all the DC elements come together in Lanterns.
