Lea Salonga Becomes First Filipina to Shine on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga made history as the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring her remarkable career spanning Broadway, music, and film. The ceremony took place in Hollywood, with Ming-Na Wen, a friend and Disney colleague, joining Salonga for the unveiling.
Salonga's journey to this milestone began with her Tony Award win for best actress in a musical in 1991 for Miss Saigon, followed by numerous Broadway productions and album releases. She is also known as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin.
In accepting the honor, Salonga reflected on the people who helped her throughout her career and the changes she has seen in the entertainment industry. 'I was incredibly fortunate that there were people who opened doors for me,' she said. 'And over the years, I have watched that world begin to change.'
